Farmers Being Thrashed, Delhi Stays Mum
On the birth anniversary of two strong leaders, one who fought for the farmers of Champaran against The British Rule and one who was so fond of farmer’s work and knew about farmer’s importance that he gave the slogan “JAI JAWAAN JAI KISAAN”. On that very day 30,000 farmers who were 600 kilometers away from their lands and home were not allowed to enter the premises of the National Capital.
The National Capital witnessed forceful and violent actions against peaceful protest of farmers. They were not the kind of protesters driven by political agendas of political parties to set public properties on fire and destroy them. They are the ones who know the values and importance of hard work that was put behind while creation of those properties. They know the pain of destruction since they have seen the crops they nourished and grew fade in front of their eyes due to lack of rain, or excess of rain or other calamities or even lack of resources.
They have been suffering in silence and when they tried to get some government aid to help themselves and their families, they were stopped at the Delhi-UP border.
There have been many instances of Farmer Suicide in our country, the situation has grown much worse and there are cases where farmers have written to The President of India and the Indian Prime Minister to at least permit them to die. The farmers are suffering and are unable to sustain a living. With increasing prices on fertilizers and pesticides it has become even more difficult, and then GST was put on these products to make the situation even worse.
In such a scenario where a farmer can neither complain nor sustain a living what are the possible options available to choose from, either they can just sell their lands and move to some city and start a new livelihood or they can keep on committing suicides.
As citizens of Free India they have every right to protest and raise questions and also demands to the government if need be. They are part of the voters, giving them all the rights to question the elected government. But not letting them enter the capital is a really shameful gesture by the Government at the centre.
It’s about time that we realise the importance of farming and farmers and support them in any way we can.
“Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Hind”
