The Era of Harassments
In the lights of the #MeToo revelations and amidst the accusations by the victims, here we are pondering and contemplating, discussing and debating, glorifying or vilifying either the story of the victim or the image of the accused on our social media handles. Opinions are being circulated all over the social media platforms, posts written, memes designed, hashtags created. News on news channels about the issues are being shown, interviews are being taken, victims are being sympathized with, slogans of justice being shouted.
The question is not “Who is the victim?” or “Who is the culprit?” but the questions are “Where is justice?” “Why hasn’t been justice served yet?” “Why are the legends of Bollywood still silent and ignorant?”
Who is right, the people writing it as shameful incidents saying that women are not being treated right at their work places or the people calling it an attention seeking popularity stunt for personal benefits? Who is right, the people who are calling it a victim card played by the woman or the people who have already declared all men as harassers? Who is right the people jumping to conclusions or the legends who have still not spoken on the matter?
It is a matter of utter shame and disgust for the concerned companies, oragnisations, unions, media houses, country’s judicial system, and us all Indians. It isn’t anymore about who is the victim or the culprit but about the justice. It is about the system that wasn’t able to register the voice years ago when it was being raised. It is about the system that didn’t feel that it was system’s responsibility to investigate and go till the bottom of it. It is about the voices that were suppressed under the influence of power, money or fear. It is also about the voices that weren’t even raised due to the society’s lack of acceptance towards such instances. It is the taboo about such issues in the society while we all know that these incidents are not rare. It is about yet another taboo that men are always wrong in such cases.
It doesn’t matter at all if we as a society can’t help establishing truth and righteousness. If we weren’t able to establish the image of the judicial system, as a system that serves justice, and on the other hand established an image as a tedious, corrupt and lethargic system. Because whatever is the scenario, it is a result of who we are and it stays such because of our ignorance towards it. Instead of being united by the different thoughts and opinions had we worked towards a few common goals, the situation would have been completely different. Had we imparted values of righteousness towards work and work culture in our fellow citizens, had we taught the very essence of being human and respecting each other, had we inculcated the importance of standing up for the right and standing up against the wrong, we wouldn’t have had to see this day where we are fighting against each other and playing the blame game. Instead we would have laid foundation towards a system more efficient, citizens more responsible, workplace more welcoming and a society much intellect.
We failed when the organisations didn’t dig deep enough to come to a conclusion and take appropriate actions against the culprits whether men or women. We failed when organisations chose to continue working with the culprits of such incidents. We failed when the eminent personalities of the same field didn’t come forward to speak for the victims. We failed the men, the women, the society, the nation and the human race above all.

We need to understand that justice delayed is justice denied. We should not only say "#MeToo" as the victims but as the culprits we should accept that everyone of us if not equally but definitely is responsible for the incidents. It's time that we go on our social media handles and type "I am responsible for this scenario" with the "#MeToo" hashtag and post it.
